SEOmonitor vs Ahrefs Brand Radar (2026): Two Keyword-Based Ways to Measure AI Search

SEOmonitor turns each tracked keyword into one weekly LLM question, billed at €19 per 1,000 credits. Ahrefs Brand Radar reads AI mentions from hundreds of millions of modeled prompts, from $199/mo per index on top of an Ahrefs plan. Compared with costs worked out.

SEOmonitor and Ahrefs Brand Radar share an assumption most buyers miss. Both measure AI search through Google keyword data rather than through prompts you write. SEOmonitor converts each keyword in your campaign into one natural question. Brand Radar models its prompt corpus from Ahrefs' keyword and People Also Ask data. Neither starts from a conversational prompt list.

So the question is scale versus precision: a narrow, weekly read on your own keywords, or a huge, roughly monthly read on the whole market. Promptwatch is the benchmark in our table because it takes the other route, tracking prompts directly and showing the fan-out searches behind each one.

The cost math

SEOmonitor's AI Search add-on runs on a site's whole keyword list. You can't pick individual keywords. Each keyword costs 1 credit per model on ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity, and 5 on Claude. Brand Radar stacks on a required Ahrefs plan.

SEOmonitor's numbers exclude its base Pro plan, whose price we couldn't verify because the pricing page returned a browser check when we read it on 14 October 2026. Even so, the AI layer is far cheaper per keyword. Brand Radar is priced for research, not for tracking many client sites. With no per-client structure, ten clients means ten setups.

SEOmonitor: AI on the same footing as rankings

For each keyword, SEOmonitor folds the intents into the single question a person would ask, sends it in a fresh session localised to the campaign, and reuses it every week. It reads mentions, citations, citation rank and sentiment for you and competitors, then weights everything by Google search volume. The result sits next to rank tracking and forecasting for the same keywords, which makes client reporting simple.

The limits come from that design. LLM data updates weekly, it only covers keywords you already track, and AI Search is a Pro add-on. The AI Visibility Index, which reads any domain from public data, is a quarterly snapshot covering only the UK and Romania. There's a 14-day trial, and every campaign gets one free AI Search snapshot on ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity.

Ahrefs Brand Radar: market-scale research

Brand Radar's corpus runs to hundreds of millions of modeled prompts. For category questions like "who dominates citations in our market," that breadth beats any sample you could track yourself. The other strength is the pivot: a page that out-cites you is one click from its backlink profile and content gaps in standard Ahrefs. None of the standalone GEO tools we list has that link graph.

As a tracker it's weaker. Chatbot indexes refresh roughly monthly, so weekly movement doesn't show. The native indexes don't include Claude, Grok or Meta AI. And because the prompts are modeled from Google keywords, read absolute counts as estimates and trust the direction more than the number.

Who wins

  • Agency reporting AI visibility to many clients: SEOmonitor. Unlimited users and cheap credits fit agency volume.
  • In-house team already paying for Ahrefs: Brand Radar, one index at a time. The backlink pivot earns its $199.
  • Needs Claude: SEOmonitor, at 5 credits per keyword.
  • Needs Copilot: Brand Radar.
  • Needs category-wide competitive research: Brand Radar.

Where Promptwatch fits

Both tools inherit Google's view of demand. That's useful for SEO reporting, but AI answers aren't Google results. An engine expands one prompt into several background searches, and those query fan-outs shape which pages get cited. Promptwatch shows the fan-outs for the prompts you track, with search volume and difficulty scores attached, so you track what people ask instead of a keyword translation of it.

It also covers the steps after measurement. Citation analytics list the exact pages, Reddit threads and YouTube videos cited. Agent Analytics logs AI crawler hits through Cloudflare, Vercel, Fastly and other CDNs. Visitor analytics tie AI-referred sessions to conversions, and Content Agents publish fixes to Webflow or Framer.

For agencies, the comparison is the agency tier. Kick-off at $199/mo includes unlimited projects and prompts, ten seats, 10,000 responses and 10M crawler logs. Growth at $399/mo raises that to 25,000 responses and 25M crawler logs. Brand teams can start on Essential at $95/mo, or Professional at $245/mo for crawler logs and city-level tracking.

Verdict

SEOmonitor is the better buy for agencies that report AI visibility against keyword campaigns. Brand Radar is the better research database for Ahrefs teams. Both translate AI search into Google keyword terms, and that is fine for reporting. To work out why an engine cites a competitor and fix it, Promptwatch is our pick. It tracks the prompts you choose every day and adds the crawler and conversion data that neither keyword-based tool publishes.

FAQ

Is SEOmonitor's AI tracking cheaper than Ahrefs Brand Radar?

Per keyword, yes. 1,000 keywords on three LLMs costs €57/mo on SEOmonitor's add-on, while one Brand Radar index adds $199/mo to an Ahrefs plan. SEOmonitor's base plan price is extra and wasn't verifiable on the day we checked.

Does either track Claude?

SEOmonitor does, at 5 credits per keyword. Brand Radar's native indexes don't include Claude.

Why look at Promptwatch instead of a keyword-based tool?

Because it tracks prompts directly, shows the query fan-outs behind each answer, and adds crawler logs and AI-referred conversions. Agency plans start at $199/mo with unlimited projects.
