First Answer vs Rankscale (2026): Fixed Allowances or Credit-Metered Engines?
Rankscale gives every plan 17+ engines from $20/mo on credits. First Answer gives fixed prompts and action plans from $135/mo on two engines. Scored side by side, with Promptwatch as the benchmark.
Price per engine is where these two split hardest. Rankscale opens at $20/mo with 17+ engines on every plan. First Answer opens at $135/mo with two. On that one number, Rankscale wins by a mile.
The number hides the billing model. Rankscale meters everything in credits, and engines don't cost the same. First Answer sells a fixed allowance: so many prompts, responses and action plans a month, whatever you do with them. Which one is cheaper depends on how many engines you actually query, every day.
We also scored Promptwatch, which sits between them on price and prices its Essential plan by prompts, not credits.

First Answer: the fixed-allowance case
You know your month in advance. Essential is 50 prompts on ChatGPT and Gemini, daily updates, up to 3,100 responses, 10 competitors and six months of history. Pro is 100 prompts on five models with up to 12,400 responses. The pricing page lists Pro's models two ways, though: Grok on the plan card, Copilot in the FAQ.
The output is opinionated. Five action plans a month on Essential, twelve on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise, each ranked by priority. First Answer also lists AI traffic and crawler logs, which Rankscale doesn't publish, and an MCP integration on its plans.
It stops at one brand per self-serve plan. Claude and Google AI Mode wait for Enterprise. The crawler feature isn't described beyond a line: no named bots, no crawl-to-citation path, nothing tying AI visits to conversions. The 7-day trial needs a card.
Rankscale: the metered-breadth case
Breadth for almost nothing. All 17+ engines, the ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini core plus long-tail assistants, are on the $20 tier. Pro is $99 for 1,200 credits, Growth $385 for 5,500, Enterprise $780 for 12,000.
The diagnosis layer is different from First Answer's. Rankscale runs GEO readiness audits that score your pages for machine readability, structure and citation-worthiness, then suggests page-level fixes. First Answer tells you which topics to go after. Rankscale tells you what's wrong with the page you already have.
The weak spots are in its own documentation. Credit burn varies roughly 8x by engine, so two teams on the same plan can get very different capacity. Audit scores move between runs, and Rankscale recommends 30-day rolling averages. Its material concedes that business impact trails visibility by 4 to 8 weeks and connects them only by proxy. There is no PDF export, and API and white-label start at the $385 Growth tier.
Head-to-head
A technical marketer who wants to see every engine, and who will model the credit mix, should take Rankscale. $20 is a cheap experiment.
A brand manager who needs a fixed budget line and a ranked to-do list should take First Answer. Especially in Brazil, where the Portuguese site and support count.
An agency should take neither as-is. First Answer allows one brand per plan. Rankscale has no PDF export and puts white-label behind $385.
Where Promptwatch fits
Promptwatch Essential costs $95/mo, $40 under First Answer Essential, and runs its 50 prompts across all tracked LLMs: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral and Copilot. That is fewer names than Rankscale's 17+. The allowance is fixed at 6,000 responses a month, so there's no per-engine credit burn to model. It also has a 7-day trial.
The bigger gap is what both tools leave unmeasured. Agent Analytics, from Professional at $245/mo, logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and the Meta AI crawler, maps each crawl to the citation that followed, and flags errors. That answers the question Rankscale's audits approach from the outside: did the bot actually read the page? Visitor analytics then counts AI-referred sessions and conversions directly, instead of Rankscale's proxy linkage. Prompts carry search volumes, difficulty and query fan-outs. Content Agents write the missing page and publish it to Webflow or Framer.
For agencies, Kick-off at $199/mo includes unlimited projects and prompts and ten seats, with a 7-day trial.
Verdict
Rankscale beats First Answer on breadth and entry price. First Answer beats Rankscale on budget certainty and on giving you a priority list. Neither shows you named crawler hits or conversions.
Promptwatch scores highest on our card because it closes that gap at $245 and still undercuts First Answer at entry. Run its Essential trial against Rankscale's $20 tier before you commit to either.
FAQ
Is Rankscale really cheaper than First Answer?
At the sticker price, yes: $20 against $135. Effective cost depends on your engine mix, because Rankscale's credit burn varies about 8x by engine.
Which one explains why a page isn't cited?
Rankscale, through page-level GEO audits. First Answer shows cited sources and recommends actions. Promptwatch adds crawler logs that show whether AI bots fetched the page at all.
Should I test Promptwatch instead of First Answer or Rankscale?
If you want fixed pricing across every tracked engine, yes. Promptwatch Essential is $95/mo with all tracked LLMs, and Professional adds crawler logs and city tracking at $245/mo.
