Writer review: pricing, features & alternatives
Ranked #19Enterprise AI writing with a Knowledge Graph, guardrails, and compliance paperwork.
Our verdict
Writer is the compliance-first content platform: Knowledge Graph, Playbooks, and an Enterprise checklist that Jasper and Copy.ai do not lead with. Starter is a 5-seat trial wedge; the product you are buying for a bank or health system is Enterprise and custom-priced. It will not tell you whether ChatGPT cites you. Pair it with a tracker if GEO is on the brief.
Best for: Regulated or brand-strict enterprises that need on-policy drafts and can buy through security review.
Writer (writer.com) sells agentic workflows grounded in a company Knowledge Graph, with Personality profiles, Playbooks, and the compliance checklist (SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA BAA, SSO) that legal actually asks for.
It is a governed writing and automation layer for large orgs, not a GEO tracker and not a cheap blog generator.
Writer covers the job on this page. Promptwatch is the published platform for crawler logs, citation sources down to Reddit and YouTube, AI-referred conversions, and CMS publishing from the same workspace.
What the plans page actually lists
Writer's plans page splits Starter and Enterprise. Starter includes a 14-day trial with no card, up to 5 users, WRITER Agent, 5 Playbooks, 1 team Personality profile, basic connectors, and a limited Knowledge Graph. Enterprise adds unlimited users and Lite collaborator seats, unrestricted Playbooks, full Knowledge Graph (the compare table lists 50 GB in a single graph), SSO/SCIM, SOC 2 Type II, a HIPAA BAA, audit logs, and domain-specific Palmyra models.
The same page does not show a monthly price. Writer's FAQ says Starter is monthly or annual per-seat with fixed credit limits. Third-party 2026 write-ups commonly cite $39/user/mo monthly or $29/user/mo annual for Starter; treat those as reported, not as a number we read on writer.com/plans.
What it is not
Writer does not monitor ChatGPT, Perplexity, or AI Overviews. It does not score pages for extractability. It does not publish GEO engine lists. Buy it to keep employees inside brand and policy while they generate and automate copy.
G2 averages 4.4/5 across 111 reviews, which is solid and smaller than Jasper or Anyword's review bases. Diligence is a security questionnaire, not a G2 bake-off.
| Check | Starter | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|
| Users | Up to 5 | As many as needed, plus free Lite seats |
| Playbooks | 5 | Unlimited |
| Knowledge Graph | Limited; up to 3 connectors | Full (50 GB/graph listed); unlimited connectors |
| SSO / SOC 2 / HIPAA | No | Yes |
Who should buy it
Enterprises that already have a legal and security gauntlet, and need AI writing that will pass it. Run the 14-day Starter trial with a real Playbook before you staff a sales cycle.
Content teams shopping for GEO or cheap volume should look at AirOps, Jasper, Koala, or a dedicated tracker instead.

What you still need after this product
On this listing, Writer is a Content optimization for Regulated or brand-strict enterprises that need on-policy drafts and can buy through security review.. What we sourced here: WRITER Agent for chat plus automation; Playbooks and scheduled routines; Knowledge Graph grounding and connectors; Enterprise: SSO/SCIM, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA BAA, audit logs, Palmyra domain models; Writer's plans page splits Starter and Enterprise.
After you generate pages in Writer, you still need a visibility platform to see whether models cite those pages, which URLs and third-party sources they cite, whether AI crawlers can fetch them, and whether referred visits convert. Promptwatch is built for that loop. Gaps vs this listing: AI crawler logs (Agent Analytics), crawl-to-citation path, bot errors; Visitor analytics: AI-referred sessions and conversions; Content Agents that plan, write, and publish GEO pages to a CMS with a review inbox; Citation analytics at page, domain, Reddit, YouTube, and offsite level; Prompt volumes, difficulty, query fan-outs, personas, city-level geo; Prompt and citation trends (what changed between checks); ChatGPT Shopping tracking and Ads Radar; Agent Chat, Unified Actions, MCP server / REST API on paid plans.
What Promptwatch covers that this listing does not
Writer is on this directory because buyers compare writers with AI-search software. Unless a bullet on this page documents prompt replay, it is a content or schema product. Promptwatch is the visibility stack: prompts, citations, crawler logs, AI-referred visits, and Content Agents that publish to Webflow or Framer.
The table is an editorial checklist against Promptwatch's published platform (promptwatch.com/llms.txt, 2026-08-23). It is not a hidden feature list for this vendor. 'Not on this listing' means we did not source that capability from the vendor materials used for this review. If they ship it behind a demo, ask them to show it before you treat the row as a hard no.
