Promptwatch vs BrightLocal Local AI Visibility (2026)
BrightLocal bundles a 20-prompt AI score into every location on its local SEO plans. Promptwatch runs your own prompts by city, daily, on far more engines. Where each one fits, with sourced pricing.
If you already pay for BrightLocal, you already have an AI visibility tool. Local AI Visibility is included on the Track, Manage and Grow plans at no extra cost. So the real question is rarely "BrightLocal or Promptwatch." It's whether the bundled module answers what you need to know, or whether you've outgrown it.
What BrightLocal measures
BrightLocal Local AI Visibility takes a business location and up to 20 prompts. BrightLocal suggests them from the category, and you can edit them. Each prompt is tagged branded or unbranded and anchored to the location. It runs on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, weekly, monthly or on demand.
The location gets a score from 0 to 100, built from how often it's mentioned, where it appears, how positively it's described and how strongly it's recommended. BrightLocal reads anything above 75 as consistent recommendation and below 50 as mostly absent. Each location is scored against the local competitors AI actually names, with an explanation of why each one outranks you. A leaderboard shows which directories AI cites for the category, and a citation gap can go straight into BrightLocal's Citation Builder.
That last link is the best part. You see that AI leans on a directory you aren't listed in, and you fix it in the same account.
Where BrightLocal stops
BrightLocal's help center is open about the limits. Three engines only, so no Gemini, Perplexity or Claude yet. A hard cap of 20 prompts per location with no way to buy more. No export or white-label reporting yet, so agencies show results inside BrightLocal. And it isn't on legacy plans or automatically on custom plans above 100 locations.
There's also a structural limit. The unit is a business location. If you sell in a city where you don't have an address, there's nothing to anchor the prompts to.
What Promptwatch measures
Promptwatch sets location on a monitor: country, optional state, optional city, language and persona. You write the prompts, put them in a monitor for Chicago, copy it for Milwaukee, and compare. They run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Each prompt carries search volume and difficulty, so you can tell a city prompt people actually ask from one you made up.
Then come the layers BrightLocal doesn't document. Citation analytics at page and domain level, including Reddit and YouTube. Agent Analytics, which logs AI crawler visits to your location pages with a crawl-to-citation path and error tracking. Visitor analytics that ties AI-referred visits to conversions. From Business, a Content Agent that drafts missing city pages into a review inbox and publishes to WordPress, Webflow or Framer.
Pricing side by side
| BrightLocal (1 location) | Promptwatch | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry with location-level AI | Track $41/mo ($369/yr) | Business $579/mo, or agency Kick-off $199/mo |
| Next tiers | Manage $54/mo, Grow $65/mo | Agency Growth $399/mo, Scale $799/mo |
| Multiple locations | Track $62/mo for 2 to 5 locations, rising by band to 100 | Business: 5 projects, 350 prompts. Agency: unlimited projects and prompts |
| Trial | 14 days, no card | 7 days on Kick-off and Growth |
The $31/mo figure you'll see for BrightLocal is the annual rate for one location; monthly billing is $41. For Promptwatch, city and state tracking are not on Essential ($95/mo) or Professional ($245/mo). Those plans are country-level only.
BrightLocal is far cheaper, and for good reason: you're paying for a local SEO suite (rank tracking, citations, GBP audit, reviews on Grow) and the AI score comes along. Promptwatch is priced as the AI program itself.
Who should pick which
Stay on BrightLocal's module if you're a single location or a small group, you already use BrightLocal for citations, and your clients want one AI number next to their map rankings. It does that job well, and the cost is nothing.
Move to Promptwatch when one of these becomes true. You need Gemini, Perplexity or Claude in the report. You need more than 20 prompts or prompts you wrote yourself. You report to clients outside BrightLocal. Or someone asks why a city's score dropped. The bundled module can't answer that, because it can't see whether AI crawlers reached the page or whether the AI referral turned into a booking.
Agencies often keep BrightLocal for listings and citation work and run the AI ledger in Promptwatch. Kick-off at $199/mo includes city tracking for every client project. Start at promptwatch.com.
