FirstIndex Alternatives (2026): 6 Options Ranked Against a $2,000 Retainer
FirstIndex charges $2,000 a month for done-for-you SEO and AI visibility. Six alternatives ranked on price, engine coverage and what you can verify yourself, with Promptwatch first.
FirstIndex is a done-for-you SEO and AI visibility service for software companies. It is not software you log into. Its team ships one change to your site every day, a person checks each one before it goes live, and a report lands every Monday. The goal is to get your pages indexed by Google and AI crawlers, found in search, and named in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews.
The offer is refreshingly plain. There is one plan, it costs $2,000 a month, and it runs month to month. FirstIndex also says outright that it does not promise rankings.
What $2,000 buys, and what it doesn't
From firstindex.co and its llms.txt, read 15 October 2026:
| Item | Monthly ceiling |
|---|---|
| In-depth articles | Up to 12 |
| Fixes to existing pages | 50+ |
| Comparison pages and free tools | Included |
| AI answer tracking and fixes | Included |
| Index checks and index requests | Included |
| Directory listings, link outreach, social posts | Included |
| Reporting | Weekly report |
Three gaps push buyers to compare. Price is the obvious one: $24,000 a year, with no smaller plan to start on. Visibility into the data is the second. FirstIndex doesn't describe a client dashboard, and it doesn't say how it checks AI answers: no prompt count, no refresh rate, no tool named. Proof is the third. The only result on the site is an unnamed chart (under 1 click a day rising to 164 by week 12), which is the vendor's own figure.
None of that makes it a bad service. It means you are buying labor and trusting the weekly report.
The ranking
| Rank | Option | Type | Entry price | Why it's here |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Promptwatch | Platform | Free; $95/mo Essential | Tracking, crawler logs, conversions and publishing you run yourself |
| 2 | AthenaHQ | Platform | Free tier; $295/mo Starter | Action Center turns gaps into tasks |
| 3 | GetCito | Managed service | $599/mo Growth | Tracker plus strategist, writer and community hours |
| 4 | Citeme | Managed service | 690 €/mo team plan | EU retainer with Reddit and PR work |
| 5 | Adaptify | Automation | $499/mo per site | Writes, publishes and builds PR links on autopilot |
| 6 | SEObot | Automation | $49/mo | Weekly articles published to your CMS |
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the option for a software company that would rather keep the $1,755 a month difference and put a few hours of its own time in. Professional is $245/mo: 150 prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral and Copilot, plus Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, refreshed daily. That alone is more documented engine coverage than FirstIndex publishes.
The plan also includes 15 AEO articles a month. Content Agents run a content gap analysis, draft the pages into a review inbox, and publish to Webflow, Framer or WordPress once you approve them. Agent Analytics logs which AI crawlers (ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, Meta AI) fetched which pages, and visitor analytics ties AI-referred sessions to conversions. So the question FirstIndex answers once a week in a report, you can answer any day from your own data.
What Promptwatch won't do is outreach, directory listings or building a free calculator for you. If those matter, read the last section.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ sits closest to a "tell me what to fix" service. Its Action Center turns visibility data into assignable tasks such as schema generation and content reformatting. Starter is $295/mo ($245 on annual billing), credit-based, single country, with unlimited seats. Someone on your side still does the work.
3. GetCito
GetCito is the cheapest managed option with a public price. Growth is $599/mo for 50 prompts a day across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, five human-written articles, and time from a strategist, writer, frontend developer and community manager. Scale is $999/mo for 100 prompts and 10 articles. Claude, Copilot and AI Mode are Enterprise only.
4. Citeme
Citeme is a Paris GEO agency. Team plans run 690 €, 1,190 € and 2,590 € a month excluding VAT. The top plan covers 8 to 12 GEO pieces, close to FirstIndex's article ceiling, and the middle plan adds active Reddit work and ongoing PR. Its plan sheets disagree in places, so get scope in writing.
5. Adaptify
Adaptify is software that behaves like a service. At $499/mo per site it writes and publishes content to your CMS, earns 1 to 20 PR backlinks a month, handles technical SEO, and re-tests AI visibility across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot every 14 days. That refresh cycle is the catch: short-term swings go unseen.
6. SEObot
SEObot is the budget autopilot. It plans and writes articles weekly, handles internal linking and backlinks, and publishes to your CMS. Plans start at $49/mo for 9 articles; $499/mo buys 100 articles plus 20 directory listings. It is a content engine: it publishes no prompt tracking or citation data, so it can't tell you whether AI engines picked the articles up.
How to choose
Decide first whether you are short of time or short of information. If nobody on the team can spend a few hours a week on this, a service makes sense, and GetCito or Citeme cost less than FirstIndex for comparable hands-on work. If you have the time, Promptwatch covers the measurement and most of the content for an eighth of the price.
If you do hire FirstIndex, keep your own measurement layer. A weekly report written by the people doing the work is not an audit. Promptwatch Essential at $95/mo tracks the same engines independently and shows whether the daily changes actually moved citations.
