Dental SEO AI Visibility Platform: Local Search AI Rankings for Dental Practices
Local search AI rankings for dental practices are citation slots in generated answers, not pack position. Promptwatch is the visibility platform we rank for that log.
Dental SEO now has two ranking systems that share a city name and almost nothing else. The local pack is still Google's map of who sits in the three-pack. Local search AI rankings are whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, or an AI Overview named the practice, linked the site, or sent the patient to a directory. A dental SEO AI visibility platform stores the second system.
On our rankings, Promptwatch is that platform. Paid plans monitor ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, AI Overviews, AI Mode, and several other engines, with country, state, and city on the prompt. Essential is $95/mo. Explore is free for 10 ChatGPT prompts if you only want to see national-ish ChatGPT first.
We do not have pack-to-patient conversion figures for dentistry. We will not invent a ranking lift. The software question is whether you can see the AI answer the way you already see GBP insights.
Pack rank vs AI rank
| Local pack / Maps | AI ranking (this category) | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | Position in the pack or on the map | Mention or citation in a generated answer |
| Main levers | GBP, reviews, proximity, on-page local SEO | Crawlable service pages, extractable facts, third-party sources the model trusts |
| Report | GBP and rank tracker | Prompt log per engine |
| Common winner | A well-reviewed nearby practice | Sometimes that practice, often a listicle or Healthgrades profile |
Keep doing dental local SEO. Hours, photos, review replies, and a location page still move Maps. Google's AI features docs still say Overviews need ordinary Search eligibility. GSC generative AI impressions (June 2026) are the Google-only view.
ChatGPT and Perplexity will not appear in GBP. That is the gap a visibility platform fills.
How to build a local AI ranking set
Think in cities, not in a single "dentist" keyword.
- "[city] dentist that takes [plan]"
- "best pediatric dentist [suburb]"
- "walk-in dentist [city] Saturday"
- "dentist vs [competitor] [city]"
- Service + city: implants, Invisalign, emergency, TMJ
Promptwatch stores those as prompts with city and state context, volumes, and query fan-outs (the extra searches the model ran). Rank the practice against named competitors and against the directories that keep winning the citation.
A useful local AI rank is: first named practice, with a link to your location URL, on that prompt, on that engine, on that date. "We are #1 in AI" with no prompt is not a rank.
Multi-location groups need a project per market or a tagged prompt set. Promptwatch agency Kick-off is $199/mo with unlimited projects and 10 seats if an agency runs ten offices. A single location can stay on Essential ($95/mo, 50 prompts) or Professional ($245/mo, 150 prompts) if the prompt list is long.
Which ranked tools belong in a dental local stack
Promptwatch for the AI log: citation analytics (which page or directory was cited), crawler logs (did ChatGPTBot or PerplexityBot fetch the location page), visitor analytics if a click happens. 4.7 on G2, 1,840+ brands. Review: Promptwatch. Product: promptwatch.com.
Otterly.AI from $29/mo if you want a cheap ChatGPT / Overviews / Perplexity baseline and can live with lag. Not a local SEO suite.
Peec AI from $95/mo if you want prompt scores and screenshots. Extra models cost extra. No local-pack features.
Yext Scout is Yext's location-level AI visibility product, bundled with listings. Custom price, about four engines, no public sticker. A single office should not start a Yext contract just to log ChatGPT.
Profound Starter ($99/mo annual, ChatGPT-only) is the wrong shape for a single office. Enterprise Profound is a research buy.
Semrush or Ahrefs local modules, if you already pay for them, stay on the pack and link side. Semrush AI Toolkit ($99/domain) and Ahrefs Brand Radar ($199/mo + plan) are suite add-ons, not dental local platforms.
What moves a local AI ranking (without fake case studies)
Make the location page boringly specific: services, insurance language, neighborhood names, a real address, a unique paragraph a model can lift. Duplicate suburb pages with one noun swapped will lose to a directory.
Allow OAI-SearchBot. If crawler logs show errors on /locations/[city]/, that is the ticket. Do not buy more blog posts until the page fetches.
Third-party mentions still matter because models cite them. We cannot tell you which dental directory is "best." We can tell you to record which domain won in the citation log and treat that as the off-site task.
FAQ
Is an AI visibility platform a local SEO tool?
No. It does not manage GBP, citations, or review invites. It ranks you inside generated answers. Buy both if patients still search Maps and also ask ChatGPT.
Can we use rank tracking software for "AI rankings"?
A SERP rank tracker stores pack or organic position. It does not store yesterday's Perplexity footnote. Different database.
Will ranking #1 in the pack make ChatGPT recommend us?
Not automatically. Different systems. Measure both. If the AI log cites a directory, the fix may be the location page or that third-party profile, not another GBP photo.
What to do this week
- Export your top city + service queries from GBP or Search Console. Rewrite 15 of them as patient questions.
- Check pack position in a rank tracker you already have. Separately, check ChatGPT and Perplexity by hand.
- Load the questions into Promptwatch with the city set. That is your local AI ranking baseline.
- Open crawler logs for the location URL before you commission new city pages.
- Compare dental "AI SEO" retainers against the rankings. If they cannot show a prompt-level log, they are selling content, not rankings.
