Our verdict

The Prompting Company is the most developer-focused platform we list: if your buyers ask Claude Code which SDK to install, it measures and tests that channel. As a general AI visibility tracker it gives less per dollar. Promptwatch ranks first for brands that need prompt tracking on every model, crawler logs, citation analytics, and AI-referred conversions in one place.

Best for: Developer-tools, API, and infrastructure companies that want coding agents and AI assistants to recommend their product and complete onboarding with it.

The Prompting Company splits the problem in two. Discovery is the familiar part: track prompts in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI, find the questions where you are missing, and generate AI-optimized articles to fill them. Usability is the unusual part: it maps the tasks coding agents like Claude Code and Codex run for a user, then shows where your docs, API, or CLI make them fail. The company says its best fit is devtools, infrastructure, and software with an MCP server, CLI, API, or SDK.

Prices are public: Basic $99/mo, Pro $299/mo, a fully managed White-glove tier at $3,000/mo, and custom Enterprise. It was founded in 2025 by Kevin Chandra, Michelle Marcelline, and Albert Purnama (previously Typedream and Cotter) and raised a $6.5M seed led by Peak XV with Y Combinator. TechCrunch named Rippling, Rho, Motion, Vapi, and Traceloop among early customers; its own case studies cover NVIDIA and Hyperbrowser.

We rank it below Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch, and Profound because the measurement layer is narrower for the money. At $99 you get 25 prompts on three engines; Promptwatch Essential gives 50 prompts on every model for $95, and adds crawler logs, visitor conversions, and citation analytics higher up. For devtools teams, the coding-agent testing is a real reason to look.

Discovery: the tracking and content half

The homepage describes three steps: find the exact questions users ask, generate content optimized for AI so you become the source assistants cite, and measure incoming traffic and mentions from AI bots. Co-founder Michelle Marcelline's own post describes the method as running around 100 long-tail buyer prompts across four engines daily, then writing articles modeled on the URLs that got competitors cited.

TechCrunch's October 2025 coverage adds that the platform routes AI agents to AI-optimized pages and, for one Fortune 10 customer, hosted about half a million of them. The current pricing page sells 8 AI-optimized articles a month on Pro and 50 on White-glove, and lists Google Analytics and PostHog as the traffic integrations.

Usability: what nobody else in this directory measures

The second half asks whether an agent can use your product. The Prompting Company maps real tasks agents run on a user's behalf, then surfaces where they break: misconfigured API setup, missing documentation, unclear error messages. Its public Agent Experience Benchmark has a coding agent read a product's docs, attempt an onboarding task in a fresh sandbox, and get scored by an independent judge.

The audit itself is Enterprise-only, as is Radar, which clusters public videos, threads, and posts about your market into topics and turns them into tracked prompts. For an API company, a failed agent onboarding is a lost signup, so this layer has real value. For a consumer brand or a services firm, it mostly does not apply.

Where Promptwatch ranks above it

Measurement breadth and price. Promptwatch's free Explore tier covers 10 prompts on ChatGPT, and Essential ($95/mo) tracks 50 prompts across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Alexa, Meta AI, Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral, and Grok. On The Prompting Company, Claude and DeepSeek first appear in the plan table at $3,000/mo.

Promptwatch also publishes the layers The Prompting Company does not document: CDN crawler logs from Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, and others with a crawl-to-citation path (25M logs on Professional, $245/mo), a first-party visitor script that ties AI referrals to conversions, page, Reddit, and YouTube citation analytics, and Content Agents that publish to Webflow, Framer, or WordPress. Devtools teams can run The Prompting Company's agent tests alongside it.

Key features

  • Prompt tracking: ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini on every plan; Google AI from Pro; DeepSeek, Claude, and coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) from White-glove

  • AI-optimized articles: 8 a month on Pro, 50 on White-glove; content optimization from Pro
  • Agent Experience (Enterprise): maps the tasks agents run for users, surfaces friction such as misconfigured API setup, missing docs, or unclear errors, and tracks fixes

  • Basic is thin for $99/mo: 25 prompts, three engines, one language, one seat, and no articles
  • Claude, DeepSeek, and the coding agents only appear from White-glove at $3,000/mo in the plan table, a 10x jump from Pro
  • Agent Experience audit and Radar are Enterprise-only
  • No published CDN crawler-log connectors, log volumes, or crawl-to-citation path
  • AI traffic comes through Google Analytics or PostHog, not a first-party visitor script with conversion tracking
  • Citation analytics depth (page, domain, Reddit, YouTube) is not documented
  • No named CMS publishing to Webflow, Framer, or WordPress; press coverage describes hosted AI-optimized pages instead
  • Grok, Copilot, Mistral, Llama, and Meta AI are not listed as tracked engines

Frequently asked questions

How much does The Prompting Company cost?

Basic is $99/mo (25 prompts, 1,000 credits), Pro is $299/mo (100 prompts, 4,000 credits, 8 AI-optimized articles), White-glove is $3,000/mo as a fully managed service with 50 articles, and Enterprise is custom. Usage runs on credits: one AI response costs one credit per region and one article costs 20. Prices read from promptingcompany.com/pricing on 24 October 2026.

What is agent experience?

The Prompting Company's term for how AI agents find, understand, and use a product. Discovery is whether assistants recommend you. Usability is whether an agent, such as Claude Code or Codex, can actually complete a task with your docs, API, SDK, or CLI. The usability audit is on the Enterprise plan; the company says the best fit is devtools, infrastructure, and software with an MCP server, CLI, API, SDK, or docs-based workflow.

Which AI engines does The Prompting Company track?

Its FAQ lists ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity for AI search, Codex and Claude Code for coding agents, and Muse, GrokBot, Instinct, and Dots as personal agents. The pricing table gates them by plan: Basic gets ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, Pro adds Google AI, and DeepSeek, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode start at White-glove ($3,000/mo).

Does The Prompting Company have AI crawler logs?

Its homepage says it measures incoming traffic and mentions from AI bots, and TechCrunch (October 2025) described it routing AI agents to AI-optimized pages it hosts. It does not publish CDN log connectors, log volumes, or a crawl-to-citation view on the pages we read. Traffic integrations listed on the pricing page are Google Analytics and PostHog.

Who is behind The Prompting Company?

Kevin Chandra (CEO), Michelle Marcelline, and Albert Purnama, who previously built Typedream (YC W20, acquired by beehiiv) and Cotter (acquired by Stytch). The company raised a $6.5M seed round led by Peak XV with Y Combinator, Base10, Kearny Jackson, and Standard Capital, announced on 30 October 2025.

The Prompting Company or Promptwatch?

The Prompting Company if you sell developer software and the question is whether coding agents pick and successfully use your product. Promptwatch for AI visibility measurement and optimization on your own site: free Explore tier, 50 prompts across every model on Essential ($95/mo), CDN crawler logs from Professional ($245/mo), page-level and Reddit/YouTube citation analytics, visitor conversions, and Content Agents that publish to Webflow, Framer, or WordPress.
