Promptwatch vs Ziptie vs Gumshoe AI vs Xfunnel (2026)
Persona, funnel, and indexing-style AI trackers ranked against Promptwatch. Includes what happened to Xfunnel after HubSpot bought it.
Most AI visibility trackers fire the same fixed prompt at every engine and count mentions. The three tools in this comparison each tried something different. Gumshoe.AI simulates conversations as buyer personas. Xfunnel sorted prompts by funnel stage, from awareness to comparison. ZipTie came from index monitoring and checks whether engines can find your pages before it asks whether they cite them. Promptwatch is in the line-up as the full platform, with personas, topics, and crawler data of its own.
If you are reading this, you probably already know that one generic prompt list gives you a flattering and slightly fake picture. You want data that looks more like what a real buyer sees. The question is which of these approaches is still buyable, and which one tells you what to do next.
How we ranked
We looked at five things: how realistic the prompt data is (personas, stages, or fixed lists), how many engines are covered, how predictable the pricing is, whether the tool explains why you are cited, and whether it connects AI visibility to traffic and conversions. A product you can no longer buy goes to the bottom regardless of how good the idea was.
ZipTie, Gumshoe.AI, and Xfunnel facts come only from their entries in our directory. Promptwatch facts come from its published plans and features. Missing data is marked "Not published."
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch ranks first because it supports the persona idea and then goes past it. Prompt tracking includes personas, topics and tags, search volumes, difficulty scores, query fan-outs, and country, state, and city tracking. You can tag prompts by buying stage yourself and watch each group move with prompt trends, which shows what changed between checks. That covers most of what a funnel view gives you, on data you control.
The part none of the other three document is the layer under the prompts. Citation analytics trace answers back to specific pages, domains, Reddit threads, YouTube videos, and offsite mentions. Agent Analytics logs AI crawler visits from ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, and Meta AI, with crawl-to-citation paths and errors. Visitor analytics tie AI-referred sessions to conversions through a script or GTM template. Content Agents then publish fixes to Webflow, Framer, or WordPress via an official plugin.
Explore is free for 10 prompts on ChatGPT. Essential is $95 a month with a 7-day trial and no crawler logs. Professional is $245 with 150 prompts, 25M crawler logs, 1M visitor events, and city tracking. Pricing is flat per plan, which makes it easier to budget than per-conversation or credit billing.
2. Gumshoe.AI
Gumshoe.AI has the most interesting method in the group. Instead of one fixed prompt, it runs conversations as defined buyer personas across roughly 11 models. It traces citations back to the publications and communities that shape answers and maps their influence, which is useful input for PR and earned-media planning.
It is not an attribution tool, despite the detective branding: our listing notes no GA4 integration and no revenue linkage. Pricing is in flux. There is a free audit, pay-per-use at about $0.10 to $0.20 per conversation, and listed Starter and Pro plans at $99 and $299 a month. Per-conversation billing is hard for an agency to forecast. Copilot is not covered, sentiment sits in higher tiers, and the API is enterprise only. No crawler-log product is documented.
3. ZipTie
ZipTie comes from the Onely technical SEO team and keeps that focus. It pairs AI answer tracking with indexing monitoring, so it can flag sections of your site that AI crawlers never fetch. Page-level citation analysis and technical fix recommendations round it out. For a technical SEO who cares most about AI Overviews accuracy, that angle is useful.
As a platform it is narrow. It covers only 3 engines. Every plan is single seat, so there is no team collaboration at any price. Basic is $69 a month on credit-based billing, with optimization suggestions capped at 10, and a 14-day trial with 75 checks. Higher tiers add credits but not seats. Our listing notes no attribution and no content workflow, and personas and city-level tracking are not documented.
4. Xfunnel
Xfunnel organized AI visibility by funnel stage, which made its reports easy for demand-gen teams to act on. You cannot buy it anymore. HubSpot acquired Xfunnel in October 2025, and the xfunnel.ai site remains online as a frozen shell. Our listing records no public migration path for existing data.
The successor is HubSpot AEO, relaunched in April 2026 at $50 a month with about 25 tracked prompts, weekly runs, and a 28-day trial. The buyer-journey analysis was absorbed into HubSpot's platform. If you are a HubSpot shop, it is worth a look with those limits in mind. If you wanted Xfunnel as a standalone funnel tracker, that product is gone.

Who should pick which
Pick Gumshoe.AI if persona-realistic audits are the main thing you want and you are fine with usage billing that moves around. It pairs well with a PR team deciding which publications to pitch. Pick ZipTie if you work solo on technical SEO and want to know whether engines can index your pages before worrying about citations. Pick HubSpot AEO, Xfunnel's successor, only if you already live in HubSpot and 25 weekly prompts is enough.
Pick Promptwatch if you want persona and stage-level tracking and also need to explain and act on what you see. Realistic prompts tell you that a CFO persona never hears your name. Promptwatch can also show which pages the engines cite instead and whether the AI traffic you do get converts.
Our recommendation
Set up your personas and stage tags in Promptwatch, then move to Professional to unlock the rest. Citation analytics show which pages and Reddit or YouTube sources win each persona's answers. Agent Analytics tells you whether AI crawlers reach the pages you want cited and where they hit errors. Visitor analytics connect the resulting AI referrals to conversions, so the persona work ties back to revenue. When a gap shows up, Content Agents draft and publish the missing page through a review inbox. Gumshoe and ZipTie each do one slice of this well, but Promptwatch is the one we would run the program on.
