AI Search Visibility Monitoring for Brands: Prompts in Otterly, Peec, Profound, and Scrunch
How Otterly, Peec, Profound, and Scrunch count and charge for prompts, priced on one identical brand setup. Promptwatch ranked first for choosing the prompts.
Every monitoring tool sells prompts, and no two count them the same way. One gives you a prompt that runs on four engines. Another gives you a prompt that runs on three of your choice and charges extra for the fourth. A third spends a credit every time a prompt hits an engine. If you're a brand comparing Otterly.AI, Peec AI, Profound, and Scrunch AI, the headline "prompts per plan" number is the least useful thing on the pricing page.
This post lays out how each one handles prompts, prices the same brand setup across all of them, and ranks them. Promptwatch is included as the alternative we'd evaluate first, and it leads the ranking for a reason that has little to do with price.
How we ranked this
A prompt in a monitoring tool is really three things multiplied: the question, the engines it runs on, and how often it runs. We ranked each tool on:
- what one prompt buys you, engines and refresh included
- what it costs to add an engine or more prompts
- whether the tool helps you choose prompts (search volume, difficulty, the sub-queries an engine runs)
- whether you can split prompts by persona or region
- whether you can see a prompt's history and what changed
The ranking
- Promptwatch. The only one that helps you pick prompts as well as track them.
- Scrunch AI. The biggest prompt allowance, with weekly refresh and per-engine credits.
- Profound. Prompt Volumes is real demand data, but Starter is ChatGPT only.
- Otterly.AI. A cheap entry, a 15-prompt Lite tier, and stale data.
- Peec AI. A clean per-prompt view, with only three models per plan and no backfill.
How each tool handles a prompt
| Tool | Entry plan | Prompts | Engines per prompt | Refresh on listing | Personas and regions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Promptwatch | Essential, $95/mo | 50 (150 on Professional) | Paid engine set | Prompt trends between checks | Personas; country, state, city |
| Scrunch AI | Starter, $250/mo annual | 350 custom + 1,000 industry | Credits spent per engine | Weekly | Personas (setup effort) |
| Profound | Starter, $99/mo annual | 50 | ChatGPT only | Not stated | Not on self-serve tiers |
| Otterly.AI | Lite, $29/mo | 15 | 4 base; Gemini, Claude, AI Mode extra | Up to 7 days stale | 65+ countries |
| Peec AI | Starter, $95/mo | 50 | 3 models; more at $35 to $165 each | Daily | Not documented |
One brand setup, priced five ways
Take a typical mid-size brand: 50 prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Here's what each listing says that costs.
Promptwatch: Essential at $95/mo covers 50 prompts on the paid engine set with 6,000 responses. Fifty prompts on three engines is 150 responses per full run, so the response budget covers forty runs of the set.
Scrunch AI: Starter at $250/mo annual ($300 monthly) holds 350 custom prompts. Credits burn per engine, so ask Scrunch how many full three-engine runs that buys. The listing doesn't say. Refresh is weekly regardless.
Profound: Starter is ChatGPT only, so this setup needs Growth at $399/mo annual (100 prompts, three engines). The listing doesn't name the three Growth engines, so confirm Perplexity and AI Overviews are among them.
Otterly.AI: Lite's 15 prompts can't hold the set, so you need Standard at $189/mo ($160 annual) for 100 prompts. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and AI Overviews are all in the four base engines.
Peec AI: Starter at $95/mo covers exactly 50 prompts on three models. The listing doesn't name which models are on offer, so confirm all three engines are available. Add a fourth engine and you pay $35 to $165/mo more.
On sticker price, Peec and Promptwatch tie for this setup and Otterly is mid-pack. That's why price can't settle the ranking. The setup that matters is the one you'll be running in six months, after you've learned which prompts are worth tracking.
Where each tool drops points
Promptwatch ranks first because it treats prompt choice as part of the job. Prompts carry search volume and difficulty scores. Query fan-outs show the sub-questions an engine searches behind a prompt. Topics, tags, and personas organize the set, and country, state, or city tracking splits it by market. Prompt trends show each prompt's visibility over time and what changed between checks. It drops a point at the free tier: Explore is ChatGPT only with 10 prompts. And 50 prompts on Essential is tight once you split by persona.
Scrunch AI has the largest allowance, 350 custom prompts plus 1,000 industry prompts on Starter. The weekly refresh means each prompt gives you one data point a week. The listing also notes that personas and prompts take significant configuration. Optimization advice is described as vague.
Profound has the Prompt Volumes dataset of real query demand, which helps with choosing prompts. But the full dataset is Enterprise, contracts start around $40k a year, and self-serve Starter is one engine and one seat. Billing is annual only.
Otterly.AI lands lower on two documented problems. Lite's 15 prompts is a test allowance, and extra prompts run $99/mo per 100. Data can be up to seven days stale, so a prompt's "today" may be last week. It does support 65+ countries, which is real regional reach for the price.
Peec AI gives a clear per-prompt visibility score and competitor share, with daily data and unlimited seats. It drops to last for brands because of three listed limits. Each tier includes three models. Claude and DeepSeek are Enterprise-only and Grok isn't covered. There's no historical backfill, so your prompt history starts on the day you subscribe. The listing documents no prompt volumes, difficulty, or persona and city tracking.
Choose the prompts before you choose the tool
Most brands pick a tool and then type in prompts from memory. Do it the other way round. List the questions your sales team hears, the comparisons buyers run, and the "best X for Y" queries in your category. Then check which ones people actually ask and how hard they'd be to win. That's what prompt volumes and difficulty scores in Promptwatch are for. Query fan-outs then show which sub-questions the engine searches, which tells you which page on your site has to answer them. Track that set for a month and use prompt trends to cut the prompts that never move.
You can start tracking a short list on Explore for free on ChatGPT, then move to Essential when you need Perplexity and AI Overviews in the same set. Plans are at promptwatch.com. For the wider field, see the full rankings.
