Affordable AI Rank Tracker for Small Businesses: Pricing

A price ladder of AI rank trackers a small business can afford, from free and $19 plans up to Promptwatch Essential at $95, and what each rung buys.

A small business shopping for an affordable AI rank tracker usually has a number in mind before it has a requirement. Twenty dollars a month feels safe. A hundred feels like a decision. Both are reasonable budgets. The trouble is that plans at those two prices answer different questions, and the cheapest ones answer the question that matters least to someone who runs a business.

Below are the published prices for the trackers in our directory that a small business would realistically consider, in price order. After that comes our ranking by what you actually get for the money.

The price ladder

ToolEntry priceWhat the entry plan covers
Promptwatch ExploreFree10 prompts, ChatGPT only, 1 project
LLMrefs Free$0Limited tracking, llms.txt generator
Encited Basic$19/mo1 site, 3 prompts tracking ChatGPT, limited site audit
Rankscale Essentials$20/mo120 credits, all engines
LLMrefs Pro$79/mo10+ engines, 500 prompts, 50 keywords
SE Ranking AI Tracker$89/mo add-on200 checks, on top of a required suite plan (about $129/mo Pro)
Promptwatch Essential$95/mo50 prompts, 6,000 responses, 200K visitor events, 5 AEO articles
Promptwatch Professional$245/mo150 prompts, 18,000 responses, 1M visitor events, 25M crawler logs

A few rows need a footnote. SE Ranking's $89 is an add-on, so you also pay for the core suite and the real entry is closer to $218 a month. One SE Ranking check is one prompt on one engine, which means 200 checks spread over five engines covers 40 prompts. Rankscale sells credits, and credit burn varies roughly eightfold by engine, so 120 credits can disappear quickly if you pick the expensive engines. LLMrefs labels its $79 plan "limited time" and refreshes weekly. Encited's $19 plan is mostly a pre-rendering and SEO audit product with three ChatGPT prompts attached.

What $20 buys, and what it doesn't

A $20 tracker answers one question well: was my business named when someone asked ChatGPT or Perplexity about my category? That is worth knowing. If you run a bookkeeping firm and "best bookkeeper for a small restaurant" never names you, you have learned something real.

But a business owner doesn't pay for mentions. They pay for customers. The next question is always whether any of those AI answers sent someone who called, booked or bought. No tracker on the $20 rung measures that, because they sample answers and never see your website.

The second gap is diagnosis. When you're not named, a mention tracker can't tell you why. You end up rewriting the services page without knowing whether an AI crawler ever read it, or whether a competitor's comparison page is simply the source the engine trusts.

Ranked for small business value

1. Promptwatch

Start on Explore, which is free: 10 prompts, ChatGPT only. It is enough to see whether your core questions name you at all, and ChatGPT alone has 820M+ weekly active users, so it is the right engine to check first.

When you're ready to pay, Essential at $95 a month (7-day trial) is the first real plan. It includes 50 prompts, 6,000 responses and 200K visitor events. Those visitor events are the point. Visitor analytics, installed with a small script or a Google Tag Manager template, show which sessions came from ChatGPT, Perplexity and other AI referrers, and whether those sessions converted. That is a number a small business can actually use.

Essential also includes 5 AEO articles a month from Content Agents, which helps when nobody on the team has time to write the page that would earn the citation. Crawler logs (Agent Analytics) start on Professional at $245. Most small businesses can stay on Essential until they suspect a crawl problem. Annual billing charges ten months for twelve, so Essential works out to $950 a year.

2. Rankscale

The cheapest multi-engine entry: $20 for 120 credits across all engines, with GEO readiness audits and page-level scoring. Fine for a directional read. Budget with care, because credit cost depends on the engine and API access is gated to the $385 Growth tier. No revenue attribution.

3. LLMrefs

The free tier is a fair place to look around, and $79 for 500 prompts across 10+ engines is a lot of prompts for the money. In exchange you get a weekly refresh, no sentiment, no alerting, and a price marked as temporary.

4. SE Ranking AI Tracker

Only makes sense if you already pay for SE Ranking. Then the $89 add-on puts a directional AI signal next to your classic keyword rankings. If you don't use the suite, this is one of the most expensive rows on the ladder.

5. Mangools AI Search Watcher

Same logic as SE Ranking. It is included in Mangools plans, covers eight engines and runs each prompt several times to average the results. The product page doesn't publish a price, so check what your current plan includes.

6. Encited

Basic at $19 tracks three ChatGPT prompts. The value is elsewhere: pre-rendering for JavaScript sites, a site auditor, and crawl log analysis from the $39 Essential plan (annual). A reasonable technical tool, a thin rank tracker.

Otterly.AI also has a $29 Lite plan with 15 prompts on four base engines and data that can be up to seven days old. It sits at the bottom of our ranking.

How to spend the first month

Write ten questions customers ask before they choose a business like yours. Use their words, not your keyword list. Load them into Promptwatch Explore and watch the ChatGPT answers for two weeks.

If you show up somewhere, move to Essential and install the visitor analytics script the same day, since the first thing you want to know is whether those answers send traffic that converts. If you never show up, use the AEO articles on Essential to publish the page the answer is missing, then watch whether the prompt moves. The full ranking lists the other trackers if you want a second opinion on the mention data.
