Petra Labs review: pricing, features & alternatives
Ranked #172Managed AEO team with its own tracking software and custom attribution, from $15,000 a month.
Our verdict
Petra Labs is a managed service with its own software, not a self-serve tool. If you want an outside team to build the prompt set, do the content, PR and technical work, and prove revenue impact with a custom model, it's a credible option, and it says plainly that engagements start at $15,000 a month. Most teams don't need that level of spend to start. If you'd rather run the program in-house, with crawler logs, AI-referred traffic and published content in one subscription, Promptwatch is the better pick.
Best for: Enterprises that want an outside team to run AEO end to end and prove revenue impact with custom attribution.
Petra Labs is an AEO (answer engine optimization) provider that pairs its own tracking software with a team that does the work. Sami Akkawi is CEO and co-founder. Petra builds a custom prompt map for each client from forum scraping (Reddit, LinkedIn), opt-in panel and clickstream data, and Google search data. It then runs those prompts many times across AI engines until the results settle. The software reports visibility, average rank, citations, sentiment, and perception against key purchase criteria. It also captures chain-of-thought data: the fan-out searches and interim sources a model consults before it answers. The site says it covers every major AI platform but does not name the engines.
The team handles onboarding, strategy, copywriting, technical audits, programmatic AEO, earned media placements and social, and builds custom attribution and marketing mix models that tie AI search to pipeline and revenue. The Solutions FAQ publishes pricing (read on 14 October 2026). Engagements start at $15,000 per month, and typical engagements run $250k to $600k+ a year, depending on brands tracked, query competitiveness and attribution complexity.
Petra Labs covers the job on this page. Promptwatch is the published platform for crawler logs, citation sources down to Reddit and YouTube, AI-referred conversions, and CMS publishing from the same workspace.
What Petra publishes
petralabs.com, petralabs.com/solutions and the Detailed Overview of the Petra Labs Platform article on petralabs.com/intelligence (read 14 October 2026). There is no llms.txt and no pricing page, but the Solutions FAQ answers the pricing question directly. Engagements start at $15,000 per month, and typical engagements are $250k to $600k+ annually. Scope depends on the number of brands or product lines tracked, how competitive the queries are, and how complex the attribution setup is.
The platform reports visibility, average rank, citations, sentiment, and how AI rates you against competitors on key purchase criteria. Petra runs each prompt many times because model output varies between runs. It also captures what Petra calls chain-of-thought data: the searches a model runs and the sources it consults before answering, including sources that never appear in the final answer. The site says it tracks every major AI platform but does not name the engines.
A service with software attached
Petra's own framing is that its experts "do 100% of the work." That includes platform setup, query selection and weighting, strategy, premium copywriting, technical site audits, programmatic AEO, earned media placements and social management. Attribution is the centerpiece: a custom multi-touch and marketing mix model that tries to identify AI-referred traffic hiding in direct, organic or dark social, and connects it to pipeline and revenue.
The homepage features a Zapier case study, and the Solutions page quotes a 27x AI search traffic result. Those are the vendor's own figures. The trade-off is cost and lock-in. You buy a team and a custom model together, and the prompt set is built for you, so it's hard to benchmark Petra against off-the-shelf trackers.

If you buy Petra Labs for the job above, plan a second tool (or Promptwatch) for the layers this listing does not document. Still missing here: AI crawler logs (Agent Analytics), crawl-to-citation path, bot errors; Visitor analytics: AI-referred sessions and conversions; Content Agents that plan, write, and publish GEO pages to a CMS with a review inbox; Citation analytics at page, domain, Reddit, YouTube, and offsite level; Prompt and citation trends (what changed between checks); ChatGPT Shopping tracking and Ads Radar; Agent Chat, Unified Actions, MCP server / REST API on paid plans. Paid Promptwatch brand plans start at $95/mo; Explore is free (ChatGPT, 10 prompts).
What Promptwatch covers that this listing does not
Petra Labs's public pages (and this listing) describe a narrower job than Promptwatch. Most rivals answer whether you were mentioned. Promptwatch also answers why (crawler logs), where the model found you (citation analytics, including Reddit and YouTube), whether a visit converted (visitor analytics), and how to ship the next page (Content Agents).
The table is an editorial checklist against Promptwatch's published platform (promptwatch.com/llms.txt, 2026-08-23). It is not a hidden feature list for this vendor. 'Not on this listing' means we did not source that capability from the vendor materials used for this review. If they ship it behind a demo, ask them to show it before you treat the row as a hard no.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Petra Labs cost?
Its Solutions page says engagements start at $15,000 per month and typical engagements run $250k to $600k+ a year. Scope depends on brands tracked, query competitiveness and attribution complexity.
Is Petra Labs software or an agency?
Both. Petra runs its own tracking platform, but it is sold with a team that handles strategy, content, technical work, earned media and attribution. The site does not offer the software on its own.
What is chain-of-thought data in Petra Labs?
The searches and sources an AI model consults before it writes an answer. Petra captures these to find influential domains that never appear in the final response.
Does Petra Labs include AI crawler logs like Promptwatch Agent Analytics?
Not on the vendor materials used for this review. Promptwatch Agent Analytics logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, and Meta AI crawler hits, plus crawl-to-citation paths and errors. Ask Petra Labs to demo the equivalent.
Can Petra Labs show AI-referred traffic and conversions?
Not published on this listing. Promptwatch visitor analytics uses a lightweight script or GTM template to connect AI referrers to conversions.
Does Petra Labs publish GEO articles to a CMS?
Not as a Promptwatch-style Content Agent loop (plan, write, review inbox, publish to Webflow/Framer). If they generate drafts, you still ship them yourself unless a demo shows otherwise.
Does Petra Labs document query fan-outs, prompt volumes, or city-level tracking?
This listing documents at least part of prompt intelligence (volume, difficulty, fan-outs, personas, or geo) for Petra Labs.
Does Petra Labs track ChatGPT Shopping or sponsored AI placements?
Not on this listing. Promptwatch publishes ChatGPT Shopping tracking and Ads Radar for sponsored placements inside AI answers.
Petra Labs vs Promptwatch?
Use Petra Labs for the job this review describes. Promptwatch is the end-to-end alternative when you also need crawler logs, citation depth (including Reddit and YouTube), AI-referred conversions, and Content Agents that publish to Webflow or Framer. Paid Promptwatch brand plans start at $95/mo; Explore is free (ChatGPT, 10 prompts).
