Agentic SEO Tools: What They Do and How to Choose One
Four types of agentic SEO tool compared in one table: entry prices, what each needs from you, and whether it measures AI answers. Only one type tracks citations, crawler logs and conversions.
Four types. Thirteen tools from our catalog. One question that separates them: after the tool acts, can it tell you whether AI answers changed?
Agentic SEO tools take over a piece of work, not just report on it. The piece differs. Some write code, some write articles, some hand tools to your own agent, and some measure AI search and then act on the gaps. All prices and features below come from each tool's listing in our rankings.
The category table
| Type | Tools | Lowest published entry | How it acts | Measures AI answers |

| MCP server | DispatchSEO, Encited, SEO MCP | SEO MCP free (50 calls/mo) | Your agent calls its tools | Encited (15 to 100 prompts); DispatchSEO tracks AI Overviews |
Track-and-act platforms
Promptwatch covers both halves. Measure: prompt tracking with volumes, difficulty and fan-outs across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, AI Overviews and AI Mode; citation analytics to page, Reddit and YouTube level; Agent Analytics crawler logs with the crawl-to-citation path; visitor analytics with conversions. Act: Content Agents plan from content gap analysis, hold drafts in a review inbox and publish to Webflow, Framer or WordPress. MCP server and REST API on every paid plan. Essential $95/mo (50 prompts). Professional $245/mo (150 prompts, 5 AEO articles, 25M crawler logs). The automated Content Agent is on Business ($579/mo).
AthenaHQ: Action Center turns visibility data into assignable tasks. From $295/mo. Relixir: agent Rex publishes through Webflow, WordPress, Contentful or Framer; custom pricing; Relixir's team configures it. Sightivo: drafts articles and outreach emails; 20 prompt checks a month on the $99 Solo plan; articles stay drafts. SEORav: publishes to Webflow, Ghost, WordPress or HubSpot; weekly citation checks on 20 keywords; $99/mo; one week old with no customers, by its own account.
Needs from you: a prompt list, CDN access for crawler logs, a tracking script or GTM tag, CMS credentials, review time.
Breaks when: the prompt list is vague, or nobody opens the review inbox.
Verdict: the only type that closes the loop. Promptwatch first, AthenaHQ second.
Fix-as-pull-request agents
Okara: Coding Agent writes schema, llms.txt, canonicals and meta tags into your repo as one GitHub PR per batch, daily. Coding Agent from $129/mo (AI CMO Lite), which also tracks 15 AI search prompts. Seology: 200+ checks, auto-fixable versus flagged buckets, Monitor, Co-pilot or Autopilot mode. Pro $49/mo for 5 sites. Rankverse: four scores per page (SEO, AEO, GEO, AI Visibility), PRs on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. From INR 3,999/mo.
Needs from you: repo write access, a deploy pipeline, a reviewer for every diff.
Breaks when: Autopilot PRs get merged unread. Also blind after the merge: none of the three lists AI crawler logs or visitor conversions.
Verdict: good for technical debt in a git-based site. Not an AI visibility program on its own.
Content autopilots
Outrank: $99/mo for 30 articles, upgrades to 60 or 90; publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer and more; API and CLI, no MCP server. SEObot: from $49/mo for 9 articles, up to 4,000 words each, full autopilot by default.
Needs from you: CMS credentials, brand guidance, an editor.
Breaks when: volume outruns review. Neither lists prompt tracking, citation analytics or crawler logs, so neither can say whether a post got cited.
Verdict: cheap output. Zero AI search feedback.
MCP servers
MCP is the open standard that connects AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor to external tools and data. These servers give your agent SEO tools.
DispatchSEO: open source (AGPL-3.0), one article a day, daily rank and AI Overview tracking, everything as PRs via GitHub Actions. Self-host free (Docker, SerpApi key, DataForSEO account). Cloud Starter $20/mo billed annually. ChatGPT can't connect yet, per its FAQ. Encited: hosted MCP plus pre-rendering, crawl log analysis, audits and AI visibility tracking. Basic $19/mo. SEO MCP: 39 tools across Search Console, GA4, Google Indexing, IndexNow, Core Web Vitals and schema. Free tier 50 calls a month.
Needs from you: an MCP client, API keys, a person driving the agent.
Breaks when: nobody's in the chat. Mostly the agent acts on request, not on a measured citation trend; DispatchSEO's daily schedule is the exception, and it lists no citation analytics. Extra costs: GitHub Actions past two sites (DispatchSEO), call caps (SEO MCP).
Verdict: strong for teams already in Claude Code or Cursor. Pair with a measurement source. More detail in our SEO MCP server rankings.
Selection checklist
- Name the bottleneck: code fixes, articles, research, or AI visibility.
- List the access the tool needs. Refuse write access you can't review.
- Confirm approval is on by default, or can be.
- Ask which report shows impact after the tool acts.
- Price the next tier, not the entry tier.
- Check the exit: rollback (Seology uses git revert) and content export.
Bottom line
Three of the four types act without measuring AI answers afterward. For AI search, that's the gap that matters. Promptwatch measures prompts, citations, crawler visits and conversions, then acts through Content Agents and its MCP server, so it's our starting pick.
